A letter from the UNC Health Care Board of Directors

June 2019

Families of the Pediatric Heart Surgery Program:

If you are reading this message on our website, it means that you have a child who is suffering from congenital heart disease. We are deeply sorry you are experiencing the stress and worry from having a sick child. Members of our board and senior leadership team know all too well what it is like to have a child who requires expert and often immediate medical care.

The Board of Directors is comprised of physicians and members of the statewide community who care deeply about our patients and caregivers.  As the governing body for UNC Health Care, our commitment to you is that we will regularly evaluate the quality of the pediatric heart surgery program by reviewing all data, listening to our caregivers and to the external expert advisory board, in addition to the family advisory council, and ensuring we approve the resources necessary to offer the highest quality care and service to your child and your family.

If at any time you have questions or concerns, you can send a message to the quality committee overseeing this program and to our board by emailing

Thank you for entrusting us to care for your child, and we wish your family all of the best.

On behalf of the UNC Health Care Board of Directors –

Charlie Owen
