Primary Care at UNC Children's

Hospital Pediatrics

Director: Lindsay Chase, MD

Pediatric Hospitalists at UNC have been overseeing the general inpatient medical care of children during their stay at UNC Children’s Hospital for years. Beginning in 2020, the team has admitted patients at UNC Children's Hospital and the 10-bed unit at UNC Rex. Pediatric Hospitalists admit, round, and coordinate the care of children throughout their stay at UNC Children’s and at UNC Rex.

Transfers and Admissions. Our faculty fulfill a unique and important role for the healthcare system as Pediatric Admissions Coordinator of all pediatric medical admissions to the children’s hospital. To speak with a physician about an admission to the UNC Children’s hospital, please call 919-883-6501.

Our family-friendly rooming-in system allows babies to stay in the room with their mothers. Our Newborn service and North Carolina Women’s Hospital has received Safe Sleep and Baby-friendly designations affirming our work to maximize breast-feeding and other infant friendly practices.

In-patient consultations to other services. We provide general pediatrics consultations for children in the hospital on specialty or surgical services. Additionally, we perform preoperative evaluations for children undergoing general anesthesia for dental procedures and some hospital follow-up visits.
