Claire’s Story

Claire's troubling and recurrent symptoms led her family to UNC, where specialists identified a rare autoimmune disease.

Making a Referral

Physicians may refer patients to our pediatric specialists who are pleased to assist in the diagnosis and management of infants, children, and adolescents with a variety of known or suspected rheumatologic disorders. Services offered include:

  • Outpatient appointments by referral in our clinics. Referrals can be made by calling 984-974-1401.
  • Telephone consultations. A consultation can be done with our physician on call by contacting the Carolina Consultation Center at (800) 862-6264 and asking for the pediatric physician on call for that subspecialty.
  • Inpatient evaluation of patients at N.C. Children’s Hospital

Making an Appointment

Once we receive a referral from your primary care physician, our schedulers will contact you to set up an appointment.

When you come for your appointment, please bring the patient's insurance information. Prior to your appointment, you should make sure that your referring physician has forwarded all medical records to our office.

If this is your child’s first visit to UNC Hospitals, you should call (984) 974-1401 to complete registration for your child. Registration is necessary before an appointment can be made, and it will create a unique patient identification number (also known as a medical record number) for your child.
