The REACH Team at N.C. Children’s Hospital

Having your child admitted to the hospital can come with a lot of uncertainty. The REACH (Rehabilitation, Education and Care Hub) team at N.C. Children’s Hospital provides compassionate support for kids who are admitted with conditions or injuries that affect how they move and perform daily tasks.

Our goal is to create the most successful rehabilitation experience possible for your child, whether they need inpatient rehabilitation during their stay in the hospital or continued outpatient therapy after they come home.

What we do

We provide compassionate care to your child through treatment and rehabilitation. Our team connects you with therapy and supportive resources to support your child throughout their recovery.

Our team meets twice a week to discuss the patients we care for. We share updates about their needs and plan for:

  • Equipment that can help with movement and the activities of daily life
  • Additional support services, such as in-hospital school, child life, supportive care, psychology and social work
  • Rehabilitation, including progress in medical and therapeutic treatments and decisions about inpatient rehabilitation or outpatient therapy
  • Education for your child and your family
  • Recommendations for your child’s return to daycare, school or other activities

Who we are

The REACH team includes a range of specialists who help your child with medical and therapeutic needs while in the hospital and after returning home. A nurse coordinator helps plan care and supports your child during treatment. Other members of the care team include specialists in:

  • Speech therapy
  • Physical therapy
